| This year, we again won the two local competitions in our category and unusually were visited by Britain in Bloom judges before those from Beautiful Scotland in Bloom. On both occasions we were able to show through individual visual displays, the work being done to preserve and improve the environment in and around Falkland by ourselves and other voluntary organisations like The Fife Air Cadets Conservation Group, Falkland HeritageTrust and Falkland Conservation Group as well as displaying the work done by Fife Ranger Service. Judges were also interested in the work undertaken during a red squirrel survey in the local estate forests. |

Once again, and helped by exceptional summer weather, the community looked very colourful and brought many visitors to see the excellent floral displays ---- although these now attract less than one third of the points allotted in competitions by judges. We were anxious to retain the Scottish trophies awarded in 05 and were pleased to receive them for a second consecutive year when the Scottish presentations were made in Dunfermline, hosted by Fife Council. The Britain in Bloom presentations in Perth the following week proved even more successful when, although narrowly beaten by the Irish village of Broughshane as winners of the very competitive Large Village section, like them, we also were granted a Gold Standard Award. Our efforts to involve all members of the community were also recognised with a coveted Discretionary Award and our Chairman, Keith Jackson, who started Falkland in Bloom nineteen years ago, was given a special award, just as Bob and Jean had received, for his efforts in the BIB Campaign. |

The icing on the cake, however, was the news that we were invited to represent the UK, along with the town of Shrewsbury, in Europe as part of the Entente Florale campaign in 2007---- quite an honour! All in all, the season had undoubtedly been the most successful ever experienced since FIB began, with an exciting challenge in store for 2007 when some fourteen judges from different countries will visit to inspect our community. |
