 A pre 2003 history...

During the 1980s, North East Fife Recreation Department was successful in competing in a number of high profile flower shows. Most notably Ayr and The Royal Highland Show. This success was an excellent advert for the area, which relies heavily on tourism. At this time, however, there was a strong view that any visitors to the area did not witness the experience of the Recreation Department as there was little in the way of bedding displays on view. The response of the Recreation Department to this criticism was to encourage the communities to take the first steps to improve their local environment, and they would then receive support from the district council.

In 1987, following a public meeting in the village, the Falkland In Bloom Society was formed with a remit of improving the environment of Falkland, mainly through the use of flowers. The Early days of the society were hampered through lack of funding, but sterling efforts by the small community soon raised sufficient funds for a number of tubs to be distributed round the village in the summer of 1988.

Winning The Best Kept Small Town award from North East Fife District Council, for the first time.

The following year saw the village compete in The Beautiful Scotland In Bloom competition for the first time and Falkland was successful in winning the New Entry category that year. Falkland was also nominated as a finalist in the Britain in Bloom competition.

As the years progressed, Falkland has been successful in receiving many accolades from Beautiful Scotland In Bloom and has also won a tourism award from the Scottish Tourist Board.
