Junior FIB...

Junior FIB came into existence through a collaboration with Falkland Primary School in late 2003. During a leisure period in their school week in 2004, a small group of pupils visited Sugar Acre where they grew a magnificent harvest of pumpkins as well as propagating cuttings that were later planted out in the school garden.

A wigwam constructed from willow branches was also made and will become a special, growing feature to see in the Sugar Acre site, now being further developed to accommodate more vegetable and flower beds. In 2005 over 100 children made regular visits to Sugar Acre and for a second season, grew melons, pumpkins and sweetcorn.

Falkland in Bloom members are especially happy to welcome these younger people to the cause of improving their environment and feel confident lessons will provide them with  practical knowledge as well as much pleasure and satisfaction at growing things for themselves. Our hope is that in the years ahead, some may have developed enough interest to play an even bigger part in the work undertaken to enhance the surroundings in our attractive village.
