Community Awards 2009...

After the success of Falkland being Crowned Champion of Champions at the recent Britain in Bloom Award Ceremony in Torquay, Falkland in Bloom held its Community Awards presentation in the Community Hall on Thursday, 8th October. Chairman Dave Clark opened proceedings by reporting on the season's achievements at the end of a difucult year and spoke of the plans to meet the challenges of 2010 when the community is again included in this prestigious campaign.

He congratulated everyone present on the contributions made and the encouragment given in a special year for Falkland and made particular reference to the involvement of the young people from Fife Air Cadets Conservation Group, Falkland Primary and House of Falkland Schools and the Smart Cookies Nursery. This had led to the winning of the Young People's Discretionary Award by judges.

Having made the final decision on local awards, landscape gardner, David du Puys commented on the excellent quality of the horticultural efforts he had examined earlier in the year and in making each award made a brief resume on each entry.

The presentation culminated in the recognition of contributions to Falkland in Bloom from a number of people. Special mention was made of Jean Maxwell who, along with her late husband, Bob, had worked tirelessly for the group for some fourteen years and she was presented with retiral gifts and a bouquet.
